What inspires design? I am fortunate to live near one of the largest bodies of water in the United States. Lake Michigan is an amazing presence that coexists with the frenetic urban environment of Chicago. While I would love to say I walk to the lake daily, sadly, I am often too consumed with the demands of daily life, especially during the short days of winter. But, as spring seems to be on the horizon here in Chicago, I look forward to visiting this beautiful body of water and watching the color palette change minute by minute depending upon the weather. While I await these treasured moments, I fondly remember previous times when I have strolled along the shoreline and looked into the horizon as I weave them into an everyday object known as the dish/tea towel. This is the first draft of a simple block design I created. Future towels will include more undulating blocks, but this was my first draft in years.
